Andy White, 'fifth Beatle' has kicked the bucket
Andy White, a session musician who played drums on the first Beatles hit but spent his life on the edges of fame, has died, colleagues said. He was 85.

The Glasgow native, who had lived for years in the United States where he taught Scottish-style pipes and drums, died this week in his adopted home of New Jersey, the New York Metro Pipe Band said on Facebook.

White performed on only one single of The Beatles -- the American version of "Love Me Do" -- but it was enough to make him a mythic "Fifth Beatles" in the lore of the Fab Four.

RIP

Hatred - See My Friends was released in July 1965, three months before Norwegian Wood was recorded. It was recorded a few months before that.

Surface

Harrison played sitar on Norwegian Wood, before the Kinks did SMF

'George Harrison was the one who introduced the Sitar to the Beatles I think after they went to India.'

True enough. George had also been tremendously impressed with Dave Davies's 'guitar that sounds like a sitar' on See My Friends' a year earlier.

'I also like She Said, She Said as it proves Ringo was a decent drummer.'

Only people who know fuck all about drumming say Ringo was a bad drummer. It's based on John's 'he's not even the best drummer in the Beatles' remark, which was a dig at Paul's ego in the certain knowledge that his best mate Rich would laugh at the joke too. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

Not in their Hamburg days they weren't, they were rocking it there

Their early recorded stuff could be described as boybandish, true

They were at the beginning. No question.

Then they took loads of drugs.

Awesome.

Boyband - Wiki:

A boy band (or boyband) is loosely defined as a vocal group consisting of young male singers, usually in their teenage years or in their twenties at the time of formation,[1] singing love songs marketed towards young females.[2] Being vocal groups, most boy band members do not play musical instruments, either in recording sessions or on stage, making the term something of a misnomer. However, exceptions do exist. Many boy bands dance as well as sing, usually giving highly choreographed performances.

Some such bands form on their own. They can evolve out of church choral or gospel music groups, but are often created by talent managers or record producers who hold auditions. Due to this and their general commercial orientation towards a female audience of preteens, teenyboppers, or teens, the term may be used with negative connotations in music journalism. Boy bands are similar in concept to their counterparts, girl groups. Boy bands' popularity peaked thrice: in the 1960s (e.g., the Monkees and the Four Seasons), in the 1990s and early 2000s when acts such as the Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, and Westlife, among others, dominated the top of the Billboard and pop charts, and in the early 2010s with the emergence of new boy bands such as JLS, Big Time Rush, One Direction and The Wanted.

If the Beatles were a boyband, shirley they would have been mentioned in that article?

DJ, Yeah it's sampled the drums on a track. Noel Gallagher singing 'setting sun' I think it is.

George Harrison was the one who introduced the Sitar to the beatles I think after they went to India. Within or Without you was my favourite beatles song when I was a kid as P only had Sgt peppers on CD and I used to nick his CD Walkman to listen to it.
